Lido Love

Gotta love this graphic!   Sorry I'm late to post it for anyone interested in actually racing.  It is so cold here that I can't imagine sailing on Valentine's Day weekend!  Lucky you live California, eh?   Today was the day already.  Ah well, I yam what I yam.   Ah gah gah gah gah gah gah....

Until next, sweet sailing. Ah gah gah gah gah gah gah....

Update: I hear from Fleet One's Karen Pierce, the artist of this graphic, that the girl represents Scarlett from "Pirates of the Caribbean".

I sailed today. OPB. It was too friggin' cold. Didn't enjoy myself, either. The fact that we finished two boats out of DFL might have had something to do with it. (Do you think?) Well, put it this way: if it hadn't been the first race of the new year, no one I associate with would have decided on a day sail. But you just have to say, "WTF" sometimes.

But that is a great graphic. But I find myself asking if those two love birds are warm enough?

BRRR. Sorry you got chilled to the bone. Warmer days are coming. Eventually.

I hope this couple has plenty of warmth in their relationship.

I just love your Sweet Bluesette page! You look like you have a lot of fun and it is so great that you found a Lido 14 and had it shipped in Japan.

I will be placing another order for Valentine’s Day Regatta shirts soon and will add two for you and your wife. If you have other sailing friends who would like some, please let me know. They are available in Men’s, Women’s and Youth sizes. They are long sleeved shirts made from a high quality cotton fabric. Because they are stone washed, they are a faded red, super soft and comfy to wear. The shirts are $15 each.

To give you a little history about how I created the image. Harry Wood came to mind as a modern day Popeye – he was a Long Beach lifeguard, he was the ultimate sailor, he smoked a pipe while sailing, and he loved wine, women and song. Scarlett is Popeye’s perfect crew girl.

Scarlett first appeared when Walter and I were designing the shirts for the 2011 Lido 14 Class Championship Regatta in Coronado. We had come up with a pirate theme of Magellan exploring the next 50 years of Lido sailing with a sexy girl by his side. While researching Pirates of the Caribbean, we learned that one of Johnny Depp’s many women was named Scarlett. Voila!

For the Class Champs, Scarlett was wearing a sultry flowing blue dress. We should have called her Bluesette instead of Scarlett!

Post some photos of you sailing your Lido and I will share them over here!

Karen - oh yes, the legendary Harry Wood, who died in December of 1999. Revered in Lido 14 lore. The Balboa Regatta is still held in his name. Long may he be remembered!

Thanks for the comment Karen. We post lots of pics of us on the water during the warmer months. For us, that's May to November at the outside.
But we're always up for lunch at Mama's Kitchen any time of year!

I ran into Johnny Depp - well, OK it was a look alike- at Tokyo Disneyland in 2008. You can read about it in this post on our Pacific Islander blog: http://pacific-islander.blogspot.jp/2008/04/giant-mice-infest-tokyo-for-25-years.html

Happy sailing!

You just have too much fun!

Walter and I organize the Harry Wood Regatta at Balboa Yacht Club in March. It is always a very fun regatta. Harry's son Barry brings his gorgeous white 1959 Mercedes that Harry used to tow his Lido all over the country to regattas. I wrote a story about Harry Wood that I can send you if you'd like to read it. Harry was quite the man!

Maybe you should come back to California for some Lido sailing while it's too cold in Japan!

Karen,
In fact, I have read your piece about Harry Wood and think I still have it on my computer somewhere. Nice tribute.
